Facial Majocchi's granuloma caused by Trichophyton tonsurans in an immunocompetent patient.

چکیده
Sir, Majocchi’s granuloma is a cutaneous dermatophyte infection of dermal and subcutaneous tissue mostly localized at trauma-prone areas in healthy individuals (1, 2). Various species of dermatophytes can cause Majocchi’s granuloma, both in immunocompetent and immunocompromised hosts (3 – 7). We describe an immunocompetent patient developing Majocchi’s granuloma caused by Trichophyton tonsurans on the right cheek, which, to the best of our knowledge, has never been reported.

The First Reported Case of Majocchi's Granuloma with Malbranchea sp. in an Immunocompetent Patient
Majocchi's granuloma is a rare condition in which a dermatophyte invades the deeper layers of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue and can often be misidentified and treated as eczema. It has a variable presentation ranging from cutaneous lesions to deeper infections in immunocompromised patients. No prior cases have described the formation of Majocchi's granuloma with the deuteromycetes, Malabra...
متن کاملPubic Majocchi's Granuloma Unresponsive to Itraconazole Successfully Treated with Oral Terbinafine.
Majocchi's granuloma (MG) is an uncommon deep fungal infection. It is usually caused by Trichophyton rubrum and may develop in any hair-bearing skin, commonly on the face and the extremities. We present a 27-year-old female with MG of the pubic area treated unsuccessfully with itraconazole capsule 100 mg for 4 weeks. The medication was discontinued and switched to terbinafine, which proved effi...
متن کاملA severe transmissible Majocchi's granuloma in an immunocompetent returned traveler
Severe dermatophyte infection is rare in immunocompetent adults. Recently cases have been described in travelers returning from South East Asia (Luchsinger et al., 2015) [1]. These may be sexually transmitted and can have permanent sequelae. We describe the first reported case of Majocchi's granuloma (MG) in an Australian returned traveler and its subsequent transmission via sexual contact. Bot...
متن کاملHomozygous ALOXE3 Nonsense Variant Identified in a Patient with Non-Bullous Congenital Ichthyosiform Erythroderma Complicated by Superimposed Bullous Majocchi’s Granuloma: The Consequences of Skin Barrier Dysfunction
Non-bullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma (NBCIE) is a hereditary disorder of keratinization caused by pathogenic variants in genes encoding enzymes important to lipid processing and terminal keratinocyte differentiation. Impaired function of these enzymes can cause pathologic epidermal scaling, significantly reduced skin barrier function. In this study, we have performed a focused, gen...
متن کاملClinical and epidemiological aspects of various forms of fungal infections caused by Trichophyton tonsurans.
In the years 1977-1996 103 cases of mycosis caused by Trichophyton tonsurans with lesions in a variety of locations were treated. T. tonsurans was most often cultured from the feet (61.2%), and toe nails (22.3%), although smaller quantities were also obtained from other locations. In 1990, an endemic focus of superficial ringworm of the hairless skin caused by T. tonsurans was observed in 23 vi...
